The Thinks I Think

Since I returned home from Germany I have had this never ending list of things that I have wanted to do, one of those things being starting a blog. Like many things on my list, I usually make excuses as to why I can't complete them or why I don't have time. The result ends up being that I do a whole lot of what I really don't want to do.

Another thing that has held me back from starting a blog is that I didn't think I had anything noteworthy to write about. And then it hit me. Last Friday night a friend and I decided to go to a bookstore to read some Dr. Seuss (Who, by the way, is of German decent. The correct pronunciation of is name is actually soice as in voice) books. We happened upon one in particular which has become the inspiration for the title of my blog : "Oh, the Thinks You Can Think". It goes through all of the wonderful things that you can think and dream about. I came away feeling empowered realizing the wonderful thinks I can think and which resulted in me having the courage to start my very own blog.

At some point this summer I realized that one thinks approximately 2/3 of his lifetime. That is if this one sleeps on average 8 per night and is actively thinking for the other 16 hours of the day. Perhaps that's a little ambitious for some people, but it's approximate. In any case, we think a lot of thoughts (or thinks, as Dr. Seuss would say it)! Everybody knows our thoughts greatly impact the people that we are and will become. At the end of a bad day I can often trace the start of the decline with a single negative thought I have had. And the same thing can go in the positive direction. Thoughts are most powerful things.

I devoted my summer to a lot of thinking and have come to the conclusion that this blog will help me put some order to it. I think the only goal for this blog will be for me to be able to express myself better. If there is any other motivation behind it I'm afraid it would just stress me out. So that is that. This is my blog. And here's to the thinks I think.
